In a major development for the Indian tech landscape, Nvidia, a leading US-based AI chip manufacturer, has commenced the distribution of its cutting-edge GH200 AI chips to prominent Indian partners, including Tata Communications and Jio Platforms. This move is part of a broader initiative to bolster AI-cloud infrastructure across the country.
Tata Communications Managing Director and CEO, AS Lakshminarayanan, confirmed that the company has begun the installation of Nvidia’s chips and is progressing towards a full-scale launch of AI Cloud services. This launch is anticipated to commence by the third quarter of the current financial year, with an initial focus on select customers.
In addition to Tata Communications, Yotta Data Services, a subsidiary of the Hiranandani Group, has also made significant strides in AI infrastructure. Yotta received its inaugural shipment of 4,000 H100 Tensor Core GPUs from Nvidia in March. The company plans to expand its GPU inventory to a total of 32,768 units by the end of 2025, enhancing its AI capabilities and data processing power.
Nvidia’s GH200 Grace Hopper platform, named after the renowned computer scientist, represents a leap in advanced computing technology. Designed to excel in artificial intelligence, high-performance computing (HPC), and data analytics, the GH200 platform integrates multiple state-of-the-art technologies to deliver superior performance and efficiency.
In addressing competition from industry giants like Intel and AMD, Nvidia’s commitment remains centered on tackling India’s significant technological challenges through strategic partnerships and leveraging its AI solutions. According to Dhupar, Nvidia’s focus is not merely on capturing market share but on fostering the development of new markets to drive economic growth.
