Her Story

Audrey Gregory, the inspiring leader at the helm of the Detroit Medical Center. On January 1, 2020, she stepped into the role of Chief Executive Officer, taking charge of this renowned healthcare institution. 

Her journey with the DMC began in October 2019 when she joined as the President, overseeing the adult central campus which includes the Detroit Receiving Hospital, Harper University Hospital, Heart Hospital, and Hutzel Women’s Hospital.

Before her arrival in Detroit, Audrey had been making waves at Tenet Healthcare’s Saint Francis Healthcare System in Memphis, where she served as the Market CEO and CEO of St. Francis Hospital – Memphis. 

Her association with Tenet spans over 15 years, during which she held various senior leadership positions, including Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and CEO of Placentia-Linda Hospital in Southern California. 

Her exceptional leadership skills have earned her three prestigious Tenet Circle of Excellence awards.

Audrey Gregory is a force to be reckoned with in the healthcare industry, widely recognized for her unwavering commitment and dedication. 

Modern Healthcare has honored her as one of the nation’s Top 25 Minority Leaders in healthcare, while Becker’s Hospital Review named her among the 70 African American leaders in healthcare to know. 

Her influence extends beyond her role at the DMC, as she serves as a trustee at-large on the Michigan Health & Hospital Association’s Board of Trustees and was appointed by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer to the Michigan Coronavirus Task Force on Racial Disparities.

Additionally, Audrey is a member of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Executive Leadership Team and a board member of the Detroit Regional Chamber.

Audrey’s educational background is as impressive as her professional accomplishments. She holds a Ph.D. in global leadership from Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida, and has earned both a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in nursing, as well as a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia.

Additionally, Gregory spearheaded the creation of a specialized transitional care unit and boosted the availability of minimally invasive robotic surgeries, as highlighted by Breen.
