This significant investment will enable HabiTerre to scale its innovative technology that tracks and measures various environmental impacts, including greenhouse gas emissions and soil carbon outcomes, providing critical insights for farmers and land managers.
Headquartered in Champaign, Illinois, HabiTerre is led by CEO Nick Reinke, who is based in St. Louis. The company is planning to establish a new office in St. Louis. The fresh infusion of capital will support HabiTerre’s mission to expand its technology’s reach, enhancing its ability to offer comprehensive data on agricultural practices and their environmental effects. The technology is applicable across diverse ecosystems, including grasslands, forests, and wetlands, and aims to assist farmers in optimizing both productivity and sustainability.
HabiTerre’s latest funding round comes as the company seeks to raise an additional $3 million to $4 million. This supplementary capital is intended to drive further innovation and broaden the company’s product applications across new geographies and crop varieties. The company’s core offerings include detailed farmland performance analytics, such as weekly productivity and yield forecasts, alongside insights into nutrient management, carbon sequestration, and water conditions.
The funding will also accelerate HabiTerre’s efforts to support large-scale food and beverage companies and consumer packaged goods firms in their decarbonization goals. By providing advanced data solutions, HabiTerre aims to assist these companies in meeting their climate targets and improving sustainability across their agricultural supply chains.
In addition to the Series A funding, HabiTerre recently received a boost from the Missouri Technology Corp., which awarded the company part of a $2.6 million grant aimed at fostering entrepreneurial growth within the state. This grant was one of several provided through public-private partnerships to support emerging startups.
Founded on research by Dr. Kaiyu Guan, an environmental scientist at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, HabiTerre is positioned to become a leading force in agricultural sustainability metrics. The company’s technology is designed to analyze the full lifecycle of emissions associated with agricultural practices, from input sourcing like fertilizer to production activities on the farm.
