Spanish-language media powerhouse TelevisaUnivision has announced a significant leadership change with the appointment of Daniel Alegre as its new CEO, effective September 19. Alegre steps into the role following Wade Davis, who has been at the helm since the merger between Univision and Grupo Televisa in 2022. Davis will remain with the company as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and continue to serve on the executive committee.
Alegre brings a wealth of experience to the position, having most recently served as CEO of Yuga Labs. Before that, he worked for Activision Blizzard as President and COO and for Google for sixteen years in a variety of executive roles. His extensive background in technology, digital platforms, and entertainment spans three decades and includes significant experience in the U.S., Mexico, and Latin America.
TelevisaUnivision has emphasized Alegre’s strategic fit for the company during this transformative period in the media landscape. With a focus on growth, the company aims to capitalize on its investments in both linear and streaming platforms, as well as enhance its news and sports offerings. The merger between Univision and Televisa has created a formidable presence in the Spanish-language media sector, combining two leading companies that serve the largest and most valuable Spanish-speaking markets globally.
Alegre is poised to build on TelevisaUnivision’s established foundation and leverage its extensive content pipeline and technological advancements. He expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to lead the company and collaborate with global teams and partners to enhance its programming and outreach.
Under Wade Davis’s leadership, TelevisaUnivision has solidified its multi-platform media business, which offers a diverse array of entertainment, news, and sports programming. As Alegre takes charge, the company looks forward to seizing new opportunities and deepening its connection with the communities it serves, further solidifying its role in the evolving media landscape.
