The integration with HealthEx is one of the major features, which is a platform that gathers medical records from over 50,000 health systems in the US. When a patient links their HealthEx account with Claude, the AI has access to that data and is able to provide insights into the patient’s health history, treatments, and lab results.
Anthropic also backs other healthcare platforms beside theirs. For instance, the collaboration with Function Health allows users to book lab tests and receive assistance in interpreting the results. Claude can access information from large health databases like CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services), PubMed, and ClinicalTrials.gov which increases the variety of medical research and clinical data it can get.
All these functionalities are reliant on a technology called Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that allows the AI to safely connect to third-party data sources while at the same time ensuring the confidentiality of patient information.
